Walmart is the largest employer in the United States. Combined, its parking lots are about the size of Tampa, Florida, and its annual revenue is about $405 billion, making it the 23rd largest economy in the world. This behemoth of a company holds significant clout in the retail world, and presents a huge opportunity to anyone looking to increase volume in their product sales. So the question is: how do you get your product into Walmart?

There are a number of criteria your product needs to satisfy in order to be even considered to be put on the shelves of Walmart. Let’s take a look at an example of a current product under consideration.

Doggy Do’s and Don’ts:

Two years ago, we wrote an article about a product by Crown Products.  We designed the package for, “Poopy Doo; Doggy Poo Bags.” The product has been highly successful. So successful in fact, that today it is being considered for retail sale by Walmart. Through our own experience, and through discussion with our client, Crown Products, we’ve created some tips to help get your product into Walmart.

  • Good packaging is a must. The design of the box must be attractive to customers, as it will be lined up against hundreds of other products.

  • The brand must be recognizable through a consistent package design. Customers will know the quality of a consistent product.

  • The product price must be set to allow profit while still remaining competitive in the eyes of the retail buyer. Try your best to find the delicate balance.

  • Have the capacity to increase production volume exponentially within a relatively short period of time. Retail buyers don’t waste time.

  • Above all, these tips are by no means a guarantee. Consumers’ wants and needs are constantly shifting, thus maintaining a dynamic product profile is a must. The above tips are a fairly good parameter to get your product into Walmart and other retailers, though they should be adjusted contextually to the time of sale and to the specific retailer.

Here at Cimetta Design, we are able to help you not only with great logo and package design, but also with marketing advice to take your product to the next level. If you want to get your product into Walmart or other retailers, start here, with Cimetta Design.

P.S: Part of the process to get your product into WalMart is an online voting program to demonstrate to Walmart the degree of public support the product has. Our client, Crown Products, is currently in that stage, and can use all the help it can get. Please help out and vote for the product here & help clean up our environment with this great product!
