Under Promise and Over Deliver, one of the biggest, most important pieces of advice that you’ll hear in the business world. Make it a point to never over promise. A lot about providing a service or selling a product is managing expectations.

If you’re filling a need and you have created a certain level of expectation with filling that need, you better deliver on that expectation. Even more so if you’ve promised something when delivering that expectation. Your word is everything in business. But if you do happen to over promise, make sure you over deliver.

Word of mouth is the most powerful form of advertising. Even if you happen to screw up and promise the impossible, if you show remorse and work towards setting things right, many times you’ll be able to get back on good terms with a client. The key is not to put yourself in that place in the first place.
